Lesson 4 - Photoshop Type and Typography

Picture - Typography with definitions
Experience:
Once you understand the fundamentals of using type in Photoshop, as well as understanding basic principles of typography, you are ready to incorporate the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity in designing a graphic that uses both image and type. The challenge for your first portfolio exhibit is to combine graphics and text together in a pleasing design. I would suggest choosing one of the following to make this a real and meaningful assignment:
  • Choose to take on one of the real world projects listed in that section of our class website.
  • For those of you who are working, create a design that would benefit you, your business, or your customers at your workplace.
  • Create a design that would be used in your USU department or college.
  • Create a design that would be used in your church or volunteer organization.
There are many types of projects you could do! I list several possibilities in the final portfolio section of our class website under the section, "Need Portfolio Exhibit Ideas?"
Here are some examples from previous students! They may spark some ideas! The ideas below were focused on digital displays for middle and high school students who are part of the USU Gear Up grant program (one of the real world projects).
