Lesson  8 - Photoshop Adjustment Layers

Experience:  You should be able to use adjustment layers to bring out the best in a photo - or to be creative, adding effects that enhance your image, poster, or other design. This week you'll learn the adjustment layers in detail.

Objectives:

  • What are adjustment layers?
  • How are adjustment layers different than in the image - adjustments menu?
  • The anatomy of an adjustment layer
Section 08-B (Tuesday)
  • Using adjustment layers presets
  • Brightness/Contrast • Levels • Curves • Exposure • Vibrance (Exercise B08-05 Levels and Exercise B08-05 Curves)
Section 08-C (Wednesday)
  • Hue/Saturation • Color Balance • Black & White • Photo Filter • Channel Mixer • Color Lookup
  • Invert • Posterize • Threshold • Selective Color • Gradient Map
Section 08-D (Thursday)
  • Shadows/Highlights
  • Three different ways to add an adjustment layer
  • Fill Layers:  Solid fills, gradient fills, pattern fills

Here's a great idea for a portfolio exhibit. In my portfolio exhibit at right, I used adjustment layers to turn a color photo I took into a dramatic black and white image.
